On July 24, 2025, officers responded to a Hilton hotel in St. Louis, Missouri after reports of a domestic disturbance. They found Dr. Andrew Michael Hummel with a bleeding cut on his hand and blood on the bed. His wife Allie, 36, was located in the women's restroom in the hotel lobby with a swollen lip.

She told police he had strangled her multiple times until she could not breathe. A guest in the neighboring room had heard a woman screaming "Get off me" and called hotel staff.

Hummel was charged with second-degree domestic assault for strangling his wife and third-degree domestic assault for striking her in the face.

On March 12, 2026, he pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault, both misdemeanors. The judge suspended both one-year jail sentences. Hummel was placed on two years of probation. He was ordered to complete a batterer intervention program, domestic violence assessments, and alcohol evaluations. He was not sent to prison for a single day.

Hannibal Regional Hospital revoked his privileges. He kept his medical license. He continued working as an anesthesiologist.

On June 23, 2026, ninety-three days after his conviction, Ralls County deputies responded to a medical emergency at a residence. They found Allie Hummel unresponsive inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was 36 years old.

The Ralls County Coroner has ordered an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing. No cause of death has been determined. No connection between her death and last year's assault has been officially established.
